Queen Elizabeth II Country Park

Birdwatching Sites Queen Elizabeth II Country Park

Queen Elizabeth II Country Park, is a popular country park, consisting of a 40-acre freshwater lake, surrounded by developing woodland and grassland. The lake is a favorite for waterfowl, especially in the winter with Gadwall, Tufted Duck and Wigeon often venturing close to the water’s edge in the car park.

Here you can also see Cormorants drying out their wings and there is a small colony of Mute Swans. The woodland attracts a good variety of passerines all year round. During 2016 a Black Tern and an Iceland Gull came to visit which were popular with the local birdwatchers.

The park is well used by dog walkers, fisherman and many that love to visit for a leisurely day out. There is a small hotel and restaurant at the main entrance. Visitors can enjoy a long nature trail walk, which circumnavigates the large lake.

There is also a small narrow gauge railway, which runs from the car park to the Woodhorn Northumberland Museum, which is operated by volunteers in the summer months. If you fancy a nice walk, with plenty of wildlife then Queen Elizabeth Country Park is a perfect day out.

During the winter months, Whooper Swans can be found on the nearby fields at times.
